17 Mar, 1887, p 3 - OBITUARY. Amos Cutter Hollowell was born March 28 [difficult to read], 1819, at Lawrenceburg, Indiana, and died at his home in this place, March 16, 1887, aged 87 years, 11 months and 15 days, after an illness of twelve days, with pneumonia. He was married to Anna E. Dickerson at Cincinnati, January 1, 1846. To this union, were born six children - Adeline, Orlando M., Joseph E, Douglas, Lilly and Claudus [sic]. All were born in Cincinnati except the last named. The two oldest died years ago. His parents died when he was quite young, leaving a family of five small children, all of whom are now dead. For thirty years he lived in Cincinnati, where he learned the trade of tinsmith. In 1855 he came to Cambridge City and formed a copartnership in the stove and tinware business with Rev. Charles H. Raymond. A few years later he purchased the entire business, and continued the same until his death. He was a man of firm purpose and upright character, public spirited, industrious, and attentive to his business at all times. His family was his idol - always watchful for their every interest and need, patient under all circumstances and great trials, loving and self sacrificing. It can be truthfully said of him that he has faithfully performed his whole duty toward his family and as a citizen. He will be thought of and missed by all, and our community has lost a valuable man. He was a life long and honorable member of the Masonic fraternity, which order will have charge of his remains. Services at the M.E. Church, Friday, at 10:30 A.M. Rev. Retts will officiate. Interment in Riverside.
