Amada Turpel was baptized a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints 8 October 1844, in Halifax, Nova Scotia by Edler T. Gwatkins. Amada with other members of her family were among the first to be baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ (Mormons). However most of the family left the church.
