Alexander MONCRIEFF was chr 23may1751 at Abernethy, Perthshire, son of Matthew Moncrieff (IGI). Alexander Moncrieff, 5th of Culfargie and Barnhill, was chr 23may1751 and d. apr1817; he married, 18jul1779 at Edinburgh, Janet VEITCH (d. 4feb1817), daughter of Alexander Veitch, Dunfermline merchant ("House of Moncrieff"). Scottish archives have the will of Alexander Moncrieff of Barnhill, Co. Perth, spouse of Janet Veatch, reg 1820 St. Andrews (scotlandspeople). Alexander belonged to the family Moncrieff of that Ilk.

Death, 1871, of Fraser Thomson (joint account with Alexander Moncrieff) declared by Robert Hope Moncrieff (findmypast); Robert was presumably b. 1849, son of Alexander. On death, 15mar1886, of Alexander Moncrieff of Perth, WS, stock was transmitted to Robert Hope Robertson, Rev Andrew Melville, John Forbes Moncrieff, CA, and James David Lumsden, bleacher (GWR shares, findmypast). On death, 20jan1911 (declared by A.P. Melville), of James Clason Harvie, Brownlee House, Carluke, landed proprieter, stock was transmitted to James David Lumsden (Huntingtowerfield, Perth), Mrs. Janet Moncrieff Melville (Barnbank, Comrie, Perthshire) (GWR shares); Jane Moncrieff Melville nee Thomson is referred to. On death, 13apr1919, of James Watson Geddes, 93 Lesswood Pl., Aberdeen, retired Free Church minister, beneficiaries were John Forbes Moncrieff, CA, Edinburgh, and James David Lumsden, bleacher, Pitcairnfield, Perthshire, and Robert Hope Robertson (GWR shares). On death 1923 of Sir Robert Russell Simpson, 23 Douglas Cresc., Edinburgh, WS, a beneficiary was Oswald Farquhar Lumsden; in 1932 Oswald was again a beneficiary (GWR shares). On death, 1874, of Miss Helen Melville, 2 Leamington Terr., Edinburgh, executor was her nephew, Rev. Andrew Melville, 6 Eton Gdns, Glasgow (GWR shares, findmypast).
