Adam Lightner and Maude his wife fled religious persecution along the Rhine in 1709. They were Lutheran. Their son William was born in Germany. Their son Nathaniel was born 1709 near London, England.
They immigrated to Ulster, New York in 1709, and settled among the La Rues, Farrees, and Le Fevres.
In 1723 the settled in the Peaqua Valley upon the northern boundary of Leacock Township [Lancaster County, Pennsylvania], about a mile northeast of the village of Intercourse.
Sons William and George returned to Germany.
Son Nathaniel married Margaret La Rue (b. 1713 in France). They had 19 children.
