- I1 - Origin/meaning:
Büdingen received city rights between 1321 and 1330 from the Counts of Isenburg, who ruled the town since 1250. The first seal dates from the early 13th century and shows the wall and towers with the banners and small shield of the Counts of Isenburg. It appears as arms first in 1652 and hasn't changed since. On the other hand, a seal from 1572 shows divided arms with on the right the castle and on the left the bars of Isenburg. These arms are not seen on later seals or images.
