There is serious question regarding the actual death of Adam Sr. Braught. His assumed death in 1833 appears to have been a ruse to abandon the family and move to Blair County, PA where he applied for vet. grants in 1852 under a different surname spelling. He may have remarried (Sophia -----, illegal marriage) and had at least one son (Joel) after 1833. It seems that he committed suicide (hung himself) in a Mifflin Co, PA poor house (4/26/60) after all of this (see Mifflin Co., PA obituaries 1822-1880 by McClenahen, pg.30 # 140). This is the death date being used here with some logic. This does not quite explain why he applied for bounty land from Blair County, PA, but I will use this data from Mifflin Co., PA also noting that his daughter-in-law Margaret Marks (spouse of eldest son, David) was from Mifflin Co., PA. and apparently familiar area to him. I suspect that he used the Blair Co. area to apply as another ploy to avoid being located by his family in Dauphin Co. Find 21 NOV. 1850 Bounty Land Warrant #25316 (40 acres) filed at Morrison's Cove, Blair Co.,PA at age 61 and 11 APR. 1855 Warrant #46260 (120 acres) filed at Huston Twsp (age 68) of Pension Claim W.O. 7048 V.A., Bk.wt. 11,966-160-55 Wash.,DC. He served as private in 152 REG. Rifleman Co.6 of PA Militia from Dauphin Co. under Capt. Isaac Smith and Lt. Wm. Cochran from 2 SEP- 2DEC 1814, according to Ser.7, V.1 and S6 VII of PA Archives. A copy of the marriage certificate was part of the pension applications by wife, Rebecca.

History of Dauphin and Lebanon Counties (Engle) pg.332 show one Adam Brecht of Bethel had three children; Christian, Adam and Elizabeth (Mrs. Gotlieb Rhoad). Halifax Twsp.. was in Upper Paxtang Twsp. of Lancaster County from 1729-1885, then was renamed Halifax Twsp. of Lancaster County 1785-1803, and finally renamed Halifax Twsp. of Dauphin County, PA since 1803 when it was reorganized into Dauphin County.
Key Christ Lutheran Church of Tulpehocken marriage cert. translation was Adam Braucht/ Adam Brocht married by REV. GEORGE LOCHMAN (see Imboden/Sweigart/McAllister data with his name), witnessed by Alexander McAllister and Philip Wolfersberger,Sr. This cert. states Adam, son of deceased Daniel Brocht, and Rebecca Imboden, dau. of Phillip Imboden were married April 23, 1810. This was the first documentation I obtained that Adam's father's name was Daniel. It also reconfirmed Rebecca Imboden's guardian was Alexander McAllister. Phillip Wolfsberger was an officer of the unit where Adam served in the War of 1812 (see military archives documents).
Christ Lutheran Church of Tulpehocken records also show a marriage between Johann Adam Bracht and Ann Margaretha Sauter on 25 May 1792. These could easily be brothers or even uncle-nephew in the same church community at near dates. Of course, the German standard use of Christian name of Johann until adulthood could also suggest that this was the same Adam with two marriages 18 yrs. apart. If that were true, his birthdate would have been closer to 1772 and he would have been about 60 when his youngest daughter, Susan Sophia, was born (plus even older if he did give birth to an illegitimate son even later). Logic would favor a relative more than the same man. We know for sure that our Adam married our Rebecca Imboden on 23 April 1810.
Christ Lutheran Church of Tulpehocken is now part of Bernville in Berks County, PA. (see photo, provided by Deidre Cox, of this church still in use in 1999, approx. 200 yrs. of service).
14 JAN. 1813 Adam (Brecht) bought 92 acres of Dauphin Co. from John Sawyer. 15 SEP. 1825 John Freeburn, Henry Baughman and he were trustees buying 85 sq. perches for school house at Halifax Twsp., Dauphin Co. Dec. 1833 he and wife Rebecca sold tracts of contiguous property in Jackson and Halifax Twsps.. (spelled name Braucht).

Because of record surname spelling of Brecht, there needs to be cognizance of records in Brickerville, Lancaster, Co. death records round 1847 (Johannes and Barbara (nee: Miller) Brecht; Trinity Reformed Church of Jackson Twsp. Lebanon Co. showing 1775-1812 marriages (John Brecht and Anna Maria Leiss on 7Jun1775; David Brecht and Susanna Reber 9Feb1806; and John Brecht and Hanna Klar on 24 Mar. 1812). Also notice Bindnagle Records by Poorman that show 24 Mar. 1812 birth of Catherina Pracht, dau. of David Pracht and wife Mary (probably Mary Sprecher), the 5 May 1815 birth of twins John and Geo. to John Pracht, and 21 May 1815 birth of David to David Pracht and wife Mary (Sprecher?).Strong possibility that David Braught, b.1782 of Moses Braught line in collection of Loran Braught is an older brother of this Adam (their father Daniel is likely a brother of Jonas Braught in that line collected by Loran Braught. Once these relationships can be confirmed, it will merge nearly 4,000 Braught relatives since 1733 in this country. Also see the Thomas Reddin, Jr. connection to Adam and Jonas lines. See Lebanon County (PA) Church Records Vol. 9 R929374847 CH1009: Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church Records marriage Adam Bracht/Rebecca Imboden April 23, 1810 witnesses Alex McAllister/Phillip Wolfersberger,Sr. (also those records Vol.7, pg. 47 shows John Mich. Bracht witnessing baptism of John Wilhelm Sherer Mar. 13, 1796 (parents = John and Anna Maria Sherer). Pg. 97 Apr. 3, 1825 shows Philip Brecht married Rebecca Breiten; pg 184 Sep 19, 1848 Johan Much married Sara Brechtat, Heidelburg Twsp. Pg 26 April 26, 1804 Philip Braun married Elisabeth Brecht (witnessed by John Hess and wife). Pg. 68 Sept 9, 1817 Jacob Herechelroth married Catherine Pracht at Annville. Pg. 71 June 16, 1818 Johannes Pracht married Magdalina Herschelroth at Londondery. See Daniel (father) for more Brecht/Bracht/Pracht records. Vol 1 Book W, pg 564 Dauphin Co. Land records show Adam Brought bought 92 acres Halifax Twsp. land from John Sawyer 14 Jan 1913 for $1,100. Vol 1 Book Z, pg 521 shows John Nace conveying land to Adam Brecht, John Freeburn, and Henry Baughman as trustees for building a school house in Halifax Twsp.. in 1823 (recorded 16 Nov 1825). Vol 2 Book G, pg 10 of Dauphin County, PA land records shows that on Feb. 5, 1833 Adam Brecht and wife, Rebecca, sold their lands in Jackson Twsp and adjacent Halifax Twsp. to John Nace. This is particularly interesting in that Adam abandoned this family later that year and relocated with a new family in Berks and Juniata Counties. It suggests that he was planning his departure for several months. One person submitting information regarding this family to LDS before 1999 was Laurane Nash, 23 Hill Cr., Red Deer, AB Canada T4N 6G3. There has been no direct communication with her yet as of June 1999. Some portions of her data I can document to be in error, but some is very consistent with adequate documentations.
