Washington County, VA. 29 Jan 1777 Aaron Lewis Ordered to be Surveyor for road from Seven Mile Ford to the Big Spring and that William Cambell give him the list of tithables. 29 Apr 1777 His mark for cattle and hogs: a crop on left year and a swallowfork in right ear. Recorded 22 Mar 1780 Aaron Lewis recommended as member of the Commission for Peace for the County. 22 Mar 1780 Aaron Lewis appointed Coroner. 22 Mar 1781 Aaron Lewis recommended as Major of Militia. 17 Apr 1781 Aaron Lewis present as court justice 19 Feb 1782 Aaron Lewis sworn as Surveyor, certified cby Ephraim Dunlap and David Carson 17 Apr 1782 Aaron Lewis recommended to Governor as a fit person for Lt. Col of 1st Battalion of Militia. 20 Jun 1782 Aaron Lewis takes Oath and commissioned Lt. Col in Militia.

!MILITARY-BIOGRAPHY: Served in the American Revolution and received the following commissions: Captain, Washington Co. Militia; Major, Washington Co. Militia; & Lieutenant Colonel, Washington Co. Militia. Saw action at the Battle of King's Mountain. At the close of the war he moved to Fayette Co., KY in the blue grass region. He was a member of the first board of trustees in 1810. He was well educated, taught in VA before the war, and also after moving to Kentucky. He accumulated considerable property and was a highly cultivated gentleman of the "old school". He took special pains in educating his children and preparing them for active, useful lives. He was of Welsh extraction as inferred from the Welsh Bible he possessed and from family tradition.
