My Biological Family Tree (mother's side)

California Birth Index, 1905-1995

According to the California Birth Index record, I was born Patrick Lawrence Samples (pronounced Semples). The California Birth Records in the County of Siskiyou for adopted children are sealed. Siskiyou County is a vast rural area with long time families locating here to work in the lumber industry. The Samples family was one of the many families that did so. I was 24 years of age when I learned of my biological birth mother. Her name was Juanita Josephine Samples. I also learned that the correct pronunciation of our surname Samples within our family has always been Semples. It is not known why the spelling of our surname is Samples, rather than Semples. One could surmise that census takers and public officials recorded it that way. I have seen it within public record in Virginia as Moses Semple, Moses Sample, Moses Semples, Moses Samples, along with other variations to this surname.

For reasonable reasons, my birth mother consented to have me adopted at birth by the Hogue family. My birth mother and adopted mother were of the same community, same age, and were friends-schoolmates together. My adopted father is Lawrence Monroe Hogue. He is a descendant of William Hoge and Barbara Hume.
