Robert Madison Decd. Will of

The last will and testament of Robert Madison[,] Harrison County State of Kentucky. I Robert Madison of Harrison County and State of Kentucky do make and constitute this as my last will and testament hereby revoking all other wills made by me.

1st I desire that at my death my executor shall cause my body to be decently interred in my grave yard at home by the side of my wife and son.

2nd I desire that all debts to me be collected. That all my household and kitchen furniture, stock, farming utensils and personal property be sold on such credit as my executors may think reasonable -- say nine months -- I also will my farm at home & my Goodnight and Hiten land to be sold that being all the land I own & to be sold on three payments one-third in hand and the balance in one and two years. I also will that my slaves named Lewis, Job and Carter[?] be sold to the highest bidder on a reasonable credit.

3rd I have given to my daughter Mary C. Robinson in money and personal property Two hundred and fifty Dollars and now charge her with that sum.

I have given to my daughter Lucy G Brown in cash & personal property three hundred & fifty Dollars and now charge her with that sum.
I have given to my daughter Permely Carter in cash Three hundred and fifty Dollars and now charge her with that sum.
I have given to my daughter Sally M. Humphreys -- who afterward intermarried with John Mitchel -- One hundred fifty dollars in cash a slave named Peggy & child Newton at Five hundred dollars and charge to her and her children hereafter named the sum of six hundred fifty Dollars.
I have given to my son Doct. James P. Madison Four hundred dollars in cash and a slave named Henry at six hundred dollars -- and a small place containing about five acres near Connersville that I purchased of Doct. Granvile Smith called Mount Altha & for which I paid eighteen hundred dollars making my whole advancement to my son James P. Twenty eight hundred dollars & which I here charge him with.
I have given to my son John M. Madison four hundred dollars in cash with which I have charged him also one grey mare at fifty dollars.
I have given to my daughter Elizabeth Frances who married Doct. Gribben and died, one hundred & fifty dollars in personal property -- a negro woman named Emily at five hundred dollars which I here charge to her two children.
I have given to my daughter Harriett Parrish in cash four hundred dollars.
I have given to my daughter Rachael Day one hundred & fifty dollars in personal property and a Slave woman named Eleanor at Eight hundred dollars, which I here charge her with.
To my son Robert H. Bascom Madison I will a negro Slave named Hawkins about Sixteen years old which I now have in possession & charge him at seven hundred dollars also I will him a bed & furniture worth thirty dollars.

4th I desire that all the proceeds of the sale of my land and Slaves and personal property and debts due to me may be collected and out of their proceeds all my children are with what they have been charged with in this will to be made equal, giving to Sally Ann Mitchels four children which she had by Frank Humphreys the share to which their mother Sally Ann would be entitled and this Share to her Humphreys children to be free from the control or debts of her husband John Mitchel and I will that my executors hold the same above of Sally Anns four Humphreys children in their hands to be kept at interest for them untill they severally marry or arrive twenty one years of age. I also will that the Share of my deceased daughter Elizabeth Frances Gribbon be given to her two daughters Mary Ellen and Matty Gribbon & my executors to keep their share in their hands until Mary Ellen & Matty Gribbon become twenty one years of age or marry. And their shared also to be free from the debts or control of their father Doct. Gribbon and to be kept at interest by my executors for their benefit until they marry or become of age. I make and constitute my son Doct. James P. Madison and my son in law John S. Day executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I here sign my name and affix my seal this 12th October 1858.

State of Kentucky Harrison County Court April Term 1860.

I Perry Wherritt Clerk of the County Court of said county do certify that this will of Robert Madison Dec'd. was produced at the above Term and proven by the oaths of J. S. Boyd and P. Wherritt and established and ordered to be recorded 24th Apl.1860. Which is done this 8th day of Novr. 1860.
