[edit] DiscussionBeginning in the early 1730's the Cumberland valley west of the Susquehanna was opened for formal settlement. The Houstons and Walkers were Among the early settlers to the area. Kinsmen Christopher and Robert Huston settled at the foot of the Blue Mountains, on the north side of Conodoguinet Creek. A James Huston, believed to be another kinsmen, settled adjacent to the Silver Springs Presbyterian Meetinghouse (SSMH), a few miles from the settlement of John Hoge at what became "Hogestown". William Walker, one of the immigrant Letterkenney Walkers settled a couple of miles to the northeast of SSMH, in an oxbow of the Conodoguinet. His brother Robert is believed to have settled somewhere along Yellow Breeches Creek [1] Samuel and John McClintock settled on the north side of the Lower Conodoguinet, immediately opposite the land of William Walker. |
