Family talk:Humphrey Varney and Sarah Starbuck (1)

Julian/Gregorian Calendar [20 June 2010]

Expressing a date as 2 Mar 1663/4 indicates an old style (Julian date) not uncertainty. If you are going to convert it to new style you would also need to add 11 days. England and her colonies did not adopt the Gregorian Calendar until 1752. Up until then New Years occurred on Mar 25 so dates between Jan 1st and Mar 25th were still the old year. Also, I see a lot of confusion where a document will carry a date such as 24 6th month 1657 Transcribed as 24 Jun when it is actually 24 Aug. That is why we celebrate George Washington's birthday on 22 Feb even though he was born on the 11th.--Scot 15:33, 30 April 2010 (EDT)

AFAOA Page and Sarah's Death

According to the AFAOA page for Joseph Austin, his widow Sarah Starbuck Austin married Humphrey Varney after Joseph died, and continued to have children by him after 1672, and died "After" 1660. (Note that Rachel, one of the children listed for Sarah and Humphrey Varney, is actually Humphrey's sister, not his daughter.)--GayelKnott 00:21, 20 June 2010 (EDT)
