William and Elizabeth lived in Forster Head, near Allendale Town, where William was a lead ore smelter. They had two daughters and a son. William died before 1871, when Elizabeth and the family moved to Shilburn (adjacent to Foster Head in the census).

In the 1871 census, Elizabeth is with her two daughters, but son George is oddly missing. In the 1881 census, George is with Elizabeth, but the daughters are gone. In the 1891 census, Elizabeth is still at Shilburn, alone with two boarders.
