1. Dorthea Crisler, born Abt. 1735 in Orange Co, VA; died in Washington Co, TN. She was the daughter of 2. Theobold (Howatt) Devald Christler and 3. Rosina Garr. She married (1) Nicholas Broyles Bef. 1757. He was born 1730 in Spotsylvania Co, VA, and died 08-September-1814 in Washington Co, TN. He was the son of Hans Jacob A Broyles and Maria Catherine Fleischman.

7. Nicholas Broyles (son of Jacob Broyles, 2) was born in Virginia about 1730, died in Washington Co.,Tenn., shortly before Sept. 8, 1814. He married Dorothea Christler, daughter of Deobold Christler, before 1757. Deobold Christler (first name given variously as Theobolt, Tevolt, and even as Fawatt) made will in Culpeper Co., Va. Feb. 20, 1776 probated Nov. 18, 1776, in which he mentions daughter Dortha Broyles. He married Rosina Garr and their many descendants should have been in The Garr Genealogy but were overlooked. The author evidently missed the will of Deobald (whose name he gives .as Fawatt) Christler, giving ten children whose names he had received by tradition but with no Dorothy. The will referred to above is ample proof that he had a daughter Dorothy Christler who married Nicholas Broyles. Nicholas Breil and wife Dorothea, one or the other, acted as sponsor at the baptism of all the children of Wilhelm Zimerman (same as Carpenter) and wife Mary, who was the daughter of Adam Wilhite and wife Catherine Broyles (5) . Dorothea Breilin also acted as sponsor at the baptisms of several children of Adam Christler (1769-1778). The births of eight of the children of Nicholas Broyles are recorded in the Hebron Birth Register and a Christler acted as sponsor at the baptisms of seven of them. Nicolus Breils was sponsor in 1777 for child of Anthony and Elizabeth Perry.

In Culpeper Co., Va. on Sept. 28, 1782 Nicholas Broyle and wife Dolly sold land to Francis Major, both making their marks. This date indicates the time of their departure to east Tennessee. Nicholas Broyle on May, 15, 1780 (1781) entered 1400 acres in Kentucky on Green River but he probably never followed up his claim. In Washington Co., Tenn., Aug. 2, 1788 Nicholas Broyles bought of Joseph Bullar 200 acres on the Little Limestone; likewise on the same day and from the same party he bought 640 acres on theEnorthh side of Nolachuckey River at the mouth of Little Limestone. Both deeds were witnessed by Jno. McMacken and Conrod Wilhoite. This land can be precisely located. It lay in the western-most part of Washington County and included the present villaage of Broylesville, which however was probably named for a later Broyles. On Aug. 5, 1788 Nicholas Broiles and wife Dorothy (both make marks) sold in two separate deeds to Sirus (thus in one deed but Cirus in the other) Broiles, first, one tract of 100 acres lying on the north side of Nolachuckey on Little Limestone; second, a tract of 320 acres on the north side of Nolachuckey beginning near the mouth of Little Limestone. In 1789 Nicholas Broyles received grant of 100 acres on the west side of Little Limestone. On Feb. 15, 1791 Nicholas Broils sold to Solomon Yeager for natural love and affection to said Solomon Yeager and wife Elizabeth 100 acres at the mouth of Little Limestone. Samuel Broils (he was son of Cyrus) was one of the witnesses. On same day Nichlas Broils sold to Solomon Yeager 100 acres lying on west side of Little Limestone. On Sept. 17, 1797 Nicholas Broyles sold to son Abraham Broyles land on Little Limestone, joining Cyrus Broyles. The deed was witnessed by Tobias Broils and Daniel Broils (both sons of Cyrus). On Sept. 19, 1797 Nicholas Broyles sold to the heirs of Rheuben Broyles for affection 129 acres joining Cyrus Broyles, James Grimes, John McAllister, and Solomon Yeager, along said Yeager's line to Abraham Broyles's line, with the reservation that the heirs of Rheuben Broyles allow Nicholas Broyles and wife Dorothy the use of the part on the north side of Onion Branch. The deed was witnessed by Daniel Broyles and Abraham Broyle. This is the last mention found of Dorothy Broyles. On Aug. 5, 1806 Nicholas Broyle sold to Abraham Broyles one negro girl. Samuel Broyles and Thomas Broyle, being the witnesses; and on Sept. 15, 1806 Nicholas Broyle sold to Sollomon Yeager one negro girl, Samuel Broyle and John Stout being the witnesses. The inventory of Nicholas Broyles was presented to the Washington County Court, November 1814 and included a record of the sale of his property made on Sept. 8, 1814. The total valuation was $1306.27. There were many buyers among whom were Samuel Broyles, Adam Broyles, Henry Glaze, Samuel Stonecypher, Adam Harmon, and Cornelius Broyles.

The births of the children of Nicholas Broyles and . his wife Dorothea are recorded in the Hebron Birth Register, with one exception. The name Reuben Broyles fails to appear. Between Maria, born 1766, and Rosina, born 1770 there is room for another child and Reuben probably belonged here and was omitted through some accident. If he does not belong here we shall have to place him before 1757. That he was the son of Nicholas is proved by tradition and by the deed of Sept. 19, 1797, cited above. Among the sponsors at the christenings of Nicholas Broyles's children the names of John Wayland and Catharine Wayland appear frequently. Catharine Wayland was the sistet of Nicholas Broyles. Michael Gaar and Elizabetha Gaar also act as sponsors. She was the daughter of Adam Wilhite who married Catharine Broyles (4). Wilhelm Ziminerman (once) and Maria Zimmerman (six times) act as sponsors for Nicholas Broyles's children. She also was daughter of Adam and Catharine Broyles Wilhite.

Nicholas Broyles had 9 children, 3 sons and 6 daughters. Nc descendants of his son Daniel have been found. His son Reuben married and had 4 daughters, no sons. So the known descendants of Nicholas by direct male line all come from his son Abraham. Elizabeth, daughter of Nicholas, married Solomon Yeager, and it is believed that his daughter Sarah married Thomas Tipton. Three daughters are unaccounted for. They may have married east Tennessee men and left issue. Nicholas Broyies (7) and wife Dorothea Christler had issue:

39. i. Daniel Broyles, born Aug. 18, 1757. No certain record of him has been found in Tennessee. The Daniel in the Tennessee records was the son of Cyrus Broyles. Daniel, son of Nicholas, may not have gone to Tennessee. He is probably identical with the Daniel Broy] confirmed at Hebron Church, Apr. 7 (Easter), 1776: who signed petitior June 5, 1779; and was taxed for personal proberty, 1783, Culpeper Co., Va. Possibly he is identical with the'Daniel Broyles who appears ir the Mercer Co., Ky records. 1816, which Daniel is not otherwise accounted for.
