    There is a newpaper clipping without attribution that reads:

    The people of the Lebanon community treated Rev. Hickman and bride to a China shower on Frday evening and on Monday evening the Murdock folks gave them an aluminum shower and his young pupils gave them a serenade, and Tuesday night, the Bethel crowd game [sic] them a silver shower, and all join in congratulations
    ========
    [Mom had a set of Wearever pots, pans, and a skillet. Maybe these are they.
    Mom only had one set of china. It was plain white. We used it for everyday and for company. When John came back from Japan after the Korean War, he brought some Noritake, but Mom was dead by then.
    Mom only had one set of silver. It was Yourex (I'm not sure of the spelling) silverplate. By the time I went to college, the silver was wearing thin. We used it for everyday and for good

    We did very little entertaining. It was hard times, and no one did much. the only exception was when the District Superintendant came to town to preach and hold quarterly conference. That only happened about once or twice a year. We always had roast beef. In another vein, we had roast beef fairly often for Sunday dinner. Dad would say "That roast cost a dollar. It has to make two meals. The second meal was often hash made with fried potatoes and the left over meat .

    [If I remember correctly, L.F. Weatherwax is Lester F. Weatherwax. I don't remember who he is, but I remember Dad talking about him. There is a Lester Weatherwax, b 2-06-1886 and a Laura Weatherwax b 09-30-1890 in the Soc Sec Index. Both died in Wichita. Perhaps, they are Soutwestern or seminary friends. HMH]
