A marriage contract was entered into dated 11 Oct 1701 in Port Royal, part of the Jean Chrysostôme Loppinot notarial records (Centre d'Etudes Acadiennes, University of Moncton, F1960). "Two dowries were agreed upon, one of 60 livres in legal currency from the father of the bride, the other of 80 livres from the father of the groom. In addition, the bride and groom gave each other the sum of 100 livres. All possessions, furnishings, and property of the couple were to be held in common. In the event of the dissolution of the marriage without any children, Marguerite could repossess what she had brought into the marriage and what had flowed to her from succession, gifts, grants, etc."
Two different dates are on this contract, 11 Jan [sic] 1701 in the margin at the beginning of the document and on the back page, but 11 Oct 1701 in the last paragraph of the text itself.
