I'm surprised I didn't notice it before, but the 1880 census in Steamboat Rock, Hardin Co, Iowa omits Frederick Arthur and Carrie Bell "Cad" Robinson. Considering the dates of birth of these 2 children, it's impossible that they are biologically from Nell Daggett.

Where did they come from? How did they end up in this family?

I never knew my great-grandmother, Charlotte Edith Robinson, but she left some genealogy papers (by my mother's request) indicating her siblings and their dates of birth, and no where does she mention that any of the kids were adopted. Perhaps they were adopted when she was quite young and it wasn't discussed or mentioned in the family?
