From the January 15, 1936, edition of the Clayton County Register (Elkader, Ia.) Miss Mary Gentz Becomes Bride of Harley Radloff LUANA: A very pretty wedding occurred at the St. John's Lutheran church the morning of January 8, when Miss Mary Gentz, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Gentz of Monona, and Mr. Harley Radloff, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Radloff of Luana, were united in marriage by their pastor, Rev. H.P. Kumpf, using the double ring service. The wedding party was ushered into the church by Lester Schulte and Milo Jacobi. They were followed by the bridesmaid, Miss Lillian Schulte, sister of the groom, who wore a frock of yellow taffeta trimmed with a black sash. The maid of honor, Miss Agnes Gentz, sister of the bride, was also becomingly gowned in yellow taffeta. The ring bearer, Rita Gentz, dressed in white, carried the rings on a white pillow. The bride was preceded by the flower girls, Marjorie Gentz and Donna Mae Radloff, each dressed in blue and carrying baskets of flowers. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a lovely floor-length gown of white satin and lace and a matching veil. Her bridal bouquet was of yellow roses. The groom was attended by Lester Hoth and William Gentz Jr. The church was decorated with palms and the bride's chosen colors, yellow and white. "O Promise Me" was played by Helmuth Landt as the wedding march. Preceding the ceremony, the Misses Hester and Lou Ann Gentz, sisters of the bride, sang "Hold Thou My Hand," accompanied by Mrs. Kumpf. After the ceremony, a two course dinner was served to immediate relatives and friends at the home of the bride's parents. Mr. and Mrs. Radloff will be at home on a farm of the groom's parents, south of Luana. On Wednesday evening, the couple were honored at a reception at the Luana opera house and were the recipients of many beautiful gifts. |
