Their original homestead was located to the corner east of the Dalmanutha Cemetery and about 1/2 mile South on the east side of the road (now called Koola Avenue).

It gives me pleasure to inform you that the Original claim for pension of Rachel M. Shaefer wid. of Ephraim F. Shaefer late P(not readable) Company A, 46 Regiment Ind. Vol. Inf. whose address is Adair, Iowa has been allowed under certificate No. 665352 at the rate of $12 per month from Sept 14, 1908 and that the certificate will soon be forwarded to the pension agent at Des Moines for transmittal to the beneficiary with voucher for payment.
