Ida's obituary reads, "MOTHER OF LEE HARTZELL DIES - Mrs. Ida N. Hartzell, Widow of Elias Hartzell, Victim of Cances After Long Illness - PROMINENT IN THE COUNTY - Following an illness of nearly one yar, Mrs. Ida N. Hartzell, aged 61 years, mother of State Senator Lee J. Hartzell, and one of Allen County's best known women, died early this morning at the old Hartzell homestead at Hoagland from cancer. The deceased had for many years been prominent in church and civic work of the women of the county. Mrs. Hartzell was born in Allen County on March 9, 1861, the daughter or Joseph and Suzanne Falls, and had resided in this county her entire life. Her parents were pioneer residents of Marion township, and were numbered among the earliest settlers of Allen county. For many years an active member of the Methodist church at Hoagland, Mrs. Hartzell had devoted much of her time to affairs of the parish, as well as to numerous other worthy charities of a general nature. The husband preceded her in death one and one-half years ago. The latter was a brother of the late Allen Hartzell, prominent business man of New Haven, who died six months ago. John Hartzell, well-known Marion county farmer, who passed away three years ago, was also a brother. The only immediate surviving relative was Senator Hartzell, of this city, and P. H. Hartzell, of Hoagland. Senator Hartzell, who has been attending the present session of the Indiana general assembly, arrived home this afternoon to attend the funeral." They are both buried at the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in New Haven, Indiana.
