Joseph met Susan when he stayed overnight with the Roebucks on trips back to Canal Dover, Ohio.

Joseph and Susan were married by Rev. John Hill, a circuit preacher. He held services at a barn in Monroe Township in 1845 and organized with 6 members. The United Brethern & Methodists erected a building.

There was also a set of twins born to Joseph and Susan in 1863. They died immediately.

Joseph bought a new buggy. Susan got into the driver's seat by mistake or excitement. Joseph scolded her, and she replied, "Well, it's nice that the brains are in one side of the family."

On August 10, 1886, Joseph gave a birthday party for Susan on her 48th birthday. One hundred people came to the farm. The Grandstaff's sang. Williamsport (Poe) Band played.

Joseph was 71 years, 10 months and 4 days old when he died of cirrhosis of the liver.

Joseph's obituary read, "JOSEPH FALLS IS NO MORE - Had lived in Allen County for Fifty Years - Lived All His Life Within Two Miles of Spot Where Parents Located When They First Came to State - Other Deaths and Announcements - Joseph Falls, a pioneer farmer of Marion township, died Monday morning at 4 o'clock at his home after a long and severe illness.
