Family:Edward Johnston, Sr and Mary Unknown (2)

The Edward Johnston Sr family including most of his grown children and their families moved from Greenbrier County, Virginia, to Fleming County, Kentucky, and were living in Fleming, Kentucky on Locust Creek near the new town of Gath by 1798, according to the Fleming County tax list. Four of the children of Edward Johnston Sr. and Mary married children of John Osborne Sr. of Greenbrier, Va.

Edward Johnston Sr. and Edward Johnston Jr. and others in the family were in the 1810 census of Fleming, Ky.

Most of them moved about 1812 to the Champaign-Clark County area of Ohio.

Edward Johnston, Sr., and his wife Mary lived in Urbana township, Champaign County, Ohio. He died before the 1820 census. Mary died in 1823.

Edward Johnston Jr. and his wife Deborah and family and his mother Mary lived at the Edward Johnston Sr. farm in 1820. Edward Johnston Jr. was in the 1820 census of Urbana township. Edward Johnston Jr. died before 1822 and his wife Deborah Osborne died by 1828.

Four of the children of Edward Johnston Jr. and Deborah Osborne eventually moved to Washington, Iowa, and lived in Marion township. Most of them are buried in Eureka Shrock cemetery in Marion township. Alfred, Noel, Nancy and Martha Johnston went to Washington, Iowa, with their spouses and families about 1850.

Mary Johnston, wife of Edward Johnston Sr. left a Will in Champaign County. Mary named her children and the children of her son Edward Johnston Jr. The Will and settlement papers were similarly recorded for Levi Osborne, her son-in-law. He mentioned a number of family members and included the names of their children and spouses.
