Edgar and Alice had two children, Charles and Candace (also seen as Callie).

The 1880 Census show Edgar (age 25 years) and Alice Brown (age 28 years)are living in Highland, Guthrie County, Iowa. Both Edgar's and Alice's birthplace was listed as New York. His was listed as a farmer. Their son, Charley, was also residing with them. He was one years old (born in Iowa).

On the 15 of June 1900, they were living in the Pierce Precinct, Pierce County, Nebraska. Edgar listed his occupation as teamster. Their two children were both born in Iowa. Charles, age 21 years, was listed as a farmer and Callie, age 19 years, was listed as a teacher. Edgar's brother, George, was living right next door.

According to the 1910 Census, Edgar, Alice and Charley were living in the Interior District, Jackson County, South Dakota. At this point in time, Edgar is listed as a farmer and his son as a laborer.

On the 24th of April 1911, Edgar filed for homestead (160 acres) in Jackson County, South Dakota Media:Brown-EgardSERPatent192937.pdf. Several years later, 22 July 1920, he filed for another 80 acres in Jackson County, South Dakota Media:Brown-EgardSERPatent763447.pdf. Their home is now a tourist museum, [[1]]

The 1920 Census (taken between January 29 and March, 1920), Edgar R., Alice, and Charley were residing in the Interior District, Jackson County, South Dakota. Both, Edgar and Charley, were listed as farmers. Also in residence was a William P. Gannon, age 16 years and born in Dakota, was listed as a companion.
