Sometime in the 1730's Person:Michael Woods (1) Came from Pennsylvania through the Valley of Virginia, settling in what is now Albemarle County on the east side of the Blue Ridge. His son, Archibald, settled near by in what is now Bedford County, about the same time. In 1734 Archibald witnessed the will of Person:John Gass (6). John was, at the time, married to Margaret, whom he married about 1728 after the death of his first wife about 1727. ^[1]

Archibald is believed to have married Isabella Gass, daughter of John Gass by his first wife. When he witnessed John Gass' will in 1734 he probably did so as his soninlaw, and most likely had married Isabella a few years previously. Archibald and Isabella had numerous children, including person:Hannah Woods (3). Hannah married [[Person:James Cowan (14), who is believed to be the son of James (13) of Beverley Manor.
