WeRelate talk:Press release, May 2006

AUTOMATIC page creation from GEDCOMs?

Well - programmable rather than manual, anyway? If that's definitely the plan, perhaps the statement could say so. Other websites already do that. Robin Patterson 19:40, 29 May 2006 (MDT)

Improvements

Paragraph "Dallan has been ..." could use a wee bit of polishing. Robin Patterson 19:40, 29 May 2006 (MDT)

I tweaked it a bit - any suggestions for how it could be further improved?--Dallan 21:49, 5 June 2006 (MDT)
You found what I noticed. Tweaks 2, 3, 4, etc were good too. It's now disarmingly impressive and I doubt if it needs anything else. (|8-D Robin Patterson 00:00, 6 June 2006 (MDT)

Purpose and uniqueness?

Most organisations have more than one press release in their lifetimes.

This project page looks as if it's a kind of continually updated media release for issue at short notice when any medium asks for one. Fine, if that's what it is; a sort of large version of the project:About#About WeRelate paragraph.

But if there have been any actual press releases that have been published somewhere else, they may deserve a more specific settled place here, on a protected page, maybe, with a name that includes an indication of date, eg project:Press releases published elsewhere in MMMMM 2006. Wikipedia lists its press releases, if that's any guide.

Good point. So far, this is our only media release. As you say, it's really more of an extended "About" paragraph. When we have press releases about specific topics, we'll follow the Wikipedia model. I'm also going to unprotect this page to allow others to edit it.

Allowing others to edit it has made WeRelate:Press release even less like what the name suggests; "this is our only media release" is now really incorrect because people have changed it. Although all the changes have been improvements, I urge you to do something to create a separate page (such as "WeRelate:Press release, May 2006" for whatever was the version you publicised (and another separate page for any second press release, and so on) - protecting those so that they remain an accurate record of what was actually publicised.

WeRelate:Press release can then be used - preferably with a small name change to WeRelate:Press releases - to list the progress of past press releases and drafts for future releases. Its "Talk" page (this page) can then be used for people to discuss past releases and put up their own, or comment on the promoters', ideas for future releases.

I agree. I have backed out the recent change because even though it reflects the latest date estimation, it changes the substance of what we said back in May. I have also added a date to this press release, and I'm adding a new WeRelate:Press releases page that points to this page and will also point to future press releases.--Dallan 11:20, 18 December 2006 (MST)
That's good. (Doubtless there will be another when "Beta" progresses; but it could copy some of the first one.) Robin Patterson 12:03, 18 December 2006 (MST)
