The Vision for WeRelate

First and foremost, WeRelate is a collaboration environment that helps people realize the benefits of sharing their work. WeRelate is not a replacement for a standard desktop genealogy program, but a collaborative add-on that allows you to:

• export information from your desktop genealogy program to WeRelate,
• make connections with others researching related lines,
• work with others on joint projects,
• get notified when others have added additional material to pages your are interested in,
• find "bugs" in your own research because multiple people are now reviewing it,
• selectively copy the new material back into your desktop database, and
• (once implemented) periodically re-export your gedcom to update your information on WeRelate.

Eventually, the founders of WeRelate would like to see (and possibly even develop) desktop genealogy programs that are more collaboration-aware such that they could better interact with WeRelate, while still being separate.
