Mary Bates [14 September 2021]

As you recall, presumably, there was already a note on the page about how unlikely the marriage to Mary Stearns was, and it was marked Questionable. So deleting the name Mary Stearns given good evidence his wife was somebody different was not lightly done. The bulk of the family was and still remains poorly sourced, having been mostly copied from some AFNs presumably. You seemed to be asking for help, and had a good source, and now you seem to be complaining that you were helped?

Besides the obvious benefit to documenting history of a place on one page, instead of hundreds, there is also the fact that what County it was in at the time is largely uninteresting. Even if something, not seen in this case, like a probate was involved, which was administered at the county level, the citation of the source would indicate the county. If there is some compelling reason to discuss changing counties over time, it is almost always because of information contained in one of the sources, and best done as part of the source citation. But it is not ideal to make the place name dependent on the date as a general rule, so we tend to use standard names.

I just searched Find A Grave and there is only one memorial for Mary Hatch d. 1777 and she is Mary Bates Hatch. There may be sources that identify her as Mary Stearns but it does not appear to be a current Find A Grave memorial.

You may find the note terse, but the edit reason has a limited length, and the first note exceeded that length, so I truncated it. Hope you find this less terse. Hope you have more good sources, it what makes this website useful to people. --Jrich 20:53, 14 September 2021 (UTC)

Collaborative website [14 September 2021]

Thank you for posting the ID.

WeRelate is a collaborative website. You share pages with people that are looking at different sources than you. If you are not willing to work with them then it is hard to collaborate.

I clearly indicated I could not find a memorial that said Mary Hatch d. 1777. Everything suggested the memorial you were talking about had been changed or removed from Find A Grave since there is a correct one that does come up. The one you finally did id (if done originally it would have saved much confusion) is entitled "Mary Stearns" (i.e., not Mary Sterns Hatch) and so does not match a search for Mary Hatch. I am not sure how it was supposed to be located with the information originally provided.

Many Find A Grave memorials are wrong, I have also documented many, but like all websites, all the pages are subject to being changed at any time, and those notes may be made no longer necessary. Hopefully at some point, that will be true of all those notes. Sorry this went poorly, but I thought I communicated the issue with the above post. --Jrich 00:40, 15 September 2021 (UTC)

Sorry Jrich, You do not collaborate, you dictate. I clearly said that Jeremiah had two Mary's attached to him. All you had to do, was go to HIS memorial & you would have clearly seen TWO Mary's attached to his memorial. As I stated in my first note to you, this has not been "a positive introduction to WeRelate." First impressions are very important, & as I stated in my note to the first admin I could find, I'm not looking for any drama or stress. You appear to be aggressive, which to me, means: drama.

I've deleted Mary parents, I've asked admins to delete Mary Bates Hatch & the contributions I made to Jeremiah. Regardless, I will not be making anymore contributions.

You think you said something, but you did not understand how your words would be interpreted. "memorials for Mary, wife of Jeremiah" would be interpreted as a page named Mary Hatch, and you did not choose to response to the first post above with the ID, apparently did not even check your work since you might have realized the page is titled Mary Stearns which is not what people should be searching for when trying to find a page for a woman who died as a wife of Jeremiah Hatch. You ignore that I implemented your changes, and are making a fuss over this one side-show that was inadequately documented (since an ID would have made everything crytstal clear). Sorry you are taking this attitude. Perhaps you will find another site that suits you better. Good luck. --Jrich 02:06, 15 September 2021 (UTC)
