Catherine Rice [3 April 2017]

"Lovehistory",

I had not seen your posting of what appears to be a message to me (23 Apr 2014). If you still want to discuss Catherine Rice, please contact me.

When it comes to Catherine Bouch Rice - I have more questions than answers.

I'm still surprised that you think her surname should be Rausch. I have most of her kids obits and death certificates and all say Bouch. Why Rausch? Ok, I've been going over my sources. Catherine's son George states his mother's maiden name is LaBusch. Hmmmm? In both his obit and his death certificate.

Per Jacob Rice's obit and death certificate, he was born in Huntington, IN. I have found Catherine in 1870 and 1880. Do you have any census prior to 1870? I have a possible match in 1850 - the year my go grandma was born which lists Frederick, Catherine, and Magdalena . My go grandma's name was Mary Catherine. So, not sure if that's them or not. It is in Tuscarawas County Ohio.

I have been to Speicher Cemetery but have never found the book about the cemetery by James Haupert. Any suggestions where I can find it.

The kids call their parents Fred, George, Mary, Catherine! Makes it confusing.

Thanks

Louise,

Great to hear from you! After all this time I wasn't expecting a reply!

I'm still not sure of this WeRelate "talk" thing - not having used it before. Best to exchange data via regular e-mail I think! Mine is: HSAbroker9@aol.com

The way this thing is set up, I can't see your original questions, so regular e-mail would definitely be better!

For now I will state that Fred & Catherine are as far back as I go in the Rice line. You probably saw that on the WeRelate pages? I connect in where Sarah (Henry) Rice's page is. My father and Lawrence Rice ran around together. I have a 1920 picture of them and another cousin (Grimm?) plowing a field near Urbana. In the Urbana area almost all the people are related in one way on another! There are no Bouch surnames, but there are plenty of Rausch surnames!

Most of these people were descendants of pioneers who came from Tuscarawas Co., Ohio. I think I explained that on Daniel Lower's page?

Regarding James Haupert, who is no longer living, his index is of the Urbana Cemetery, and was put together in circa 1978. My cousin Marilyn Lauer copied it for me.
