Next step: Review your GEDCOM [28 January 2016]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded MacGregor Family Tree_2016-01-28.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Gedcom Review [30 January 2016]

Are you sure the warning can be ignored? I see the wife was a widow in 1891 but cannot easily find a birthdate for John. I realise it could well be true but just wanted to make sure you had checked.

It is dreat to see sources added for trees but the source for facebook should possibly be excluded as it is probably about living people. Bear in mind that online tress are not really classed as sources unless they are publicly viewable and contain sources, but that is not a WeRelate rule, just one of my 'things.'

If you are happy with the two points then just resubmit the gedcom or exclude the source by ticking the box and I will approve it. If you have any questions or comments add them to this pasge and I will get back to you.-Rhian 12:30, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

These is the link I can find for free access, cannot get ancestry census page to share or export or download (grr). This is the 1881 census for Scotland, Very young bride Margaret, old codger John and eldest of the eventual 4 children, Mary are shown.

By the 1891 census dad John is gone, Margaret is living in Kilmeny, and is joint head of household with her brother David M Campbell.

Baby Margaret (subject of the warning) is shown as being born in 1889. Her Father would have been 69 at her birth. He was married before, to an Isabella Dunlop, but no children from that, as he married her when she was past childbearing age. She was his housekeeper at Gruinart Farm.

I've cleared all the errors and warning from the first gedcom I uploaded, but this one I can't clear, as it is true! Thanks for being thorough. I will go see what gives with the facebook links, I wasn't aware I had included any.--LoriMacGregor 14:19, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

Yes I had seen them in 1891 and 1901, just checking that you were aware of the age, your gedcom is now approved, have fun and welcome to WeRelate, and as I have some Scots blood perhaps we will relate soon! -Rhian 15:00, 30 January 2016 (UTC)

[Moved fromUser Page} [7 February 2016]

Hi, Lori,

I got your message. Yes, learning how to navigate a new site always takes time. If you want to see what changes have been made to a page you are watching, you can go to the column on the left hand side of the page. Under "Edit", it should say "History". If you click on that, it will show you what changes have been made. Admittedly, trying to see what changes were made when two pages were merged can be difficult at first. But if you go to Family:Malcolm Campbell and Agnes Unknown (2), for example, and click on "History", you will see that I merged that page with Family:Malcolm Campbell and Agnes Unknown (1). That was because you had entered the same family on two different pages, except that neither family was complete. If you want to compare the two pages before the merge, you can click the "review/undo" link at the end of the line. You will see that on one page Malcom and some of the kids were missing, but otherwise the information was the same, and the merge just combined the two pages. Just hit the back button on the page if this looks okay to you.

Hope this helps, Gayel --GayelKnott 17:09, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Ah, that makes sense. [6 February 2016]

I did eventually figure out that how to view the changes, but couldn't work out if you were updating a global page, or doing something else to mine. I hadn't realised I had a duplicate family, and the gedcom import thing didn't catch it either. Thanks for the help fixing it! Now how do I merge this page with the one I get that has dialogue on it when I log in? :)--LoriMacGregor 19:37, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Oops, My mistake!. My message should have gone on this page. My apologies. I've moved it here, so hopefully it will make more sense. Also, I'm not sure what page you get when you log in. This is a Talk page, and it is attached to your User Page -- which only you should be able to edit, so I'm not sure why I was able to do so. Now that I've straightened out my mistake, hope this works better for you. Gayel --GayelKnott 16:48, 7 February 2016 (UTC)
