Hello and welcome to WeRelate. We're glad to have you in our virtual genealogical community.

So, I don't know if you care, but here are a few suggestions for optimizing your surname in place pages.

  1. If you remove the numbers, write out "County" and the state, the system will automatically link you pages to the relevant surnames and places. This makes it easier for your cousins to find and collaborate with you, and prevents parallel surname and place pages.
  2. Unfortunately, the system is case sensitive, so DILLARD is a different name than Dillard. The system has pages for most surnames, but only the first letter is capitalized.
  3. If you use a larger geographic area, you are more likely to encounter related persons--your ancestors may have moved around or be related to someone in a neighboring county. See, Phillips in Texas.
  4. Generally, you can only connect one name and one place.

So, if you had one page for Grace in Georgia and one page for Grace in Maryland, you would likely find more cousins to collaborate with. :-)

We really appreciate your participation and contribution to the WeRelate virual genealogical community and knowledge-base. Together we can build a great community and by sharing what we know, we can make genealogical research so much more rewarding and successful. We are glad to have you with us. We will be bringing person and family pages up at the end of this month and GEDCOM upload close behind. We would greatly appreciate your input. If you have any questions or comments please email me.
