Next step: Review your GEDCOM [27 April 2010]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded LAIDLAW-RICKERSON.GED, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate lines and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Please stop adding extra marriages [8 May 2010]

Twice now you have added non-existent marriages to "Unknown" when the person had two marriages already on their page. Please look carefully and notice that both those pages (Hannah Noyes, John Whipple) ALREADY showed both the marriages of those people. That is how 2 marriages are shown in WeRelate. The marriage to Unknown implies a third marriage to a person who has not been identified so this is saying something that is not true of either one. You cite good sources (though it is better to cite them as sources than as mysources and your sources are in the system so there is no reason not to do it right), so I know your sources tell you the names of the spouses and specifically that they are NOT unknown. --Jrich 09:39, 8 May 2010 (EDT)

I'm sorry, but I thought I was supposed to match families in my database with others. That is what I thought I was doing. If I made an error, I certainly did it out of ignorance of how this website works. I found the instructions a bit confusing. I certainly was not trying to muddy the waters, only share what data I have.--Klaidlaw 11:12, 8 May 2010 (EDT)

You are supposed to match your families to existing ones, but you added an unnecessary new page for Family:Unknown and Hannah Noyes (1) with the same marriage date as the already existing page Family:John Atkinson and Hannah Noyes (1), and for Family:John Whipple and Unknown (1) with the same marriage date as the already existing page Family:John Whipple and Rebecca Scott (1). The sources you cited gave the spouses' names, so I don't think you meant to use Unknown, but I also don't think you matched to the existing pages, since it created a new page. I don't know what steps you took, but hopefully you now see whatever it was that you did wrong. If not you should try posting a question at WeRelate talk:Support, saying what you did, and asking how it should be done. --Jrich 13:03, 8 May 2010 (EDT)

Benno Frederic Nell [10 May 2010]

Hi Kurt, are you a descendant of the above Nell family? A close family friend and distant cousin (through my Meadows line) is a descendant of Thomas Richard Nell, born in Chicago in 1921, son of Benno Nell and Dorothy Seyforth (Seiferth). I am doing some research for my friend and have started a public tree on Ancestry. I use WeRelate but my friends don't even use a genie progam so I figured Ancestry was the easiest for sharing. He has a picture of Jean Baptiste Nell who immigrated to the United States, evidently the father of the first Benno of this family born in America. I just started the research 2 days ago so not very far along; I plan to order the naturalization records as soon as I can identify where they are located. --Beth 21:12, 8 May 2010 (EDT)

Sorry Beth, He is linked into my Zimmerman/Newman line, but far down the tree from where I link in.--Klaidlaw 13:22, 10 May 2010 (EDT)

Neal Rickerson

Hi Kurt, It looks like Neal Rickerson (1) and Neal Rickerson (2) may be duplicates and should be merged. But I don't want to merge anyone else's work. I was just examining Place:Lake View Cemetery, Jamestown, Chautauqua, New York, United States page and noticed the two Neals linked to that page. Don't give up on WeRelate; the benefits outweight the ocassional rough spots and people. --Janiejac 14:34, 19 February 2011 (EST)
