Next step: Review your GEDCOM [15 January 2014]

You're not done yet!

WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded KNAPP-647-525db3.ged, your next step is to review what your pages will look like, review any potential warnings, and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. You need to review your GEDCOM before it can finish importing. We will keep your GEDCOM in the queue for two weeks to give you time to review it.

Note: if your gedcom contains many errors or multiple families, we’d ask that you resolve and correct the errors, delete this gedcom and re-submit it without the errors before merging it with families already on WeRelate. If the gedcom is very large, we’d suggest breaking it up into separate files (or families) and importing them one at a time, which makes the review and correction process easier.

Click here to review your GEDCOM

Once you have finished your review and marked your GEDCOM Ready to import, one of our administrators will review your GEDCOM and finalize the import. This usually happens within 24 hours. You will receive a message here when the pages have been created.

Need help with duplicates/unlinked people? [18 January 2014]

I notice that you recently uploaded a GEDCOM, and that some of the people are disconnected from anyone else (e.g., Elizabeth Ditty (3)) and/or are duplicates of existing records in WeRelate (e.g., Elizabeth Ditty (3), which is a duplicate of Elizabeth Ditty (2); and Michael Feasel and Elizabeth Ettinger (2), which is a duplicate of Michael Feasel and Elizabeth Ettinger (1)). Since disconnected people are not particularly interesting, and, of course, we want to eliminate duplicates, would you like some help to identify duplicates and merge them?

Duplicate families show up on a daily report (which is how I noticed the Feasel/Ettinger marriage), but duplicate individuals don't and need to be individually checked. I'm willing to help with that. If you would prefer to go through your tree yourself first, please let me know.--DataAnalyst 18:10, 18 January 2014 (UTC)

Dixon family issues [1 February 2014]

Welcome to WeRelate.

I noticed that there were some inconsistencies in the Dixon family, in terms of census records cited not matching the person the page was for. I added a red flag on one page (John Dixon) to note this, but since I can't resist a puzzle, I started trying to sort out the census records for his son and grandson. I only got partway through, but I'll probably continue over the weekend. Just thought I'd let you know what I was up to.--DataAnalyst 04:09, 1 February 2014 (UTC)

Update: I have unlinked Thomas Dixon from John Dixon and Sarah Haggath, leaving the latter family with few connections (i.e., a small tree). I unwatched the John Dixon and Sarah Haggath tree so that you can delete it if you choose to. Since it has errors, and it appears to be unconnected to your ancestry, you might want to just delete it. I've done enough work on Thomas Dixon and will probably do more to ensure his children are sorted out, that even if they are not related to you, we can leave them for someone else to find already documented sometime in the future.--DataAnalyst 16:47, 1 February 2014 (UTC)
