thompson for we relate.ged Ready for Review [15 April 2009]

Welcome to WeRelate! WeRelate is different from most family tree websites. By contributing to WeRelate you are helping to create Pando for genealogy, a free, unified family tree that combines the best information from all contributors.

Now that you have uploaded your GEDCOM, your next step is to preview what your pages will look like and combine (merge) people in your GEDCOM with matching people already on WeRelate. When you have finished your review, your GEDCOM will be imported. Click here to review your GEDCOM.

Hi, I noticed that your new gedcom has been in review mode for a few days. It's a new system and might be a little confusing at first. Do you need any help with the review process? :)--sq 00:13, 19 April 2009 (EDT)

Yes. I need help. The process was not intuitive to me, and I ran out of time to figure it out, then I did not know how to get back to it.

Go to gedcom review from the admin menu and click on your tree there. Or click on the link from your talk page. I can help you walk through it if you tell me what your questions are. Mostly you need to check the warnings, and the Matches. You can edit your gedcom in the lower window and correct little problems like people dieing before they get married or being born in the wrong century. After you look at the warning and decide whether or not there is an error, you can decide to correct the problem or not. Then when you are finished with the warnings, you can look at possible matches. WeRelate is not just another place to upload a gedcom. It is a place to connect with your cousins through your common ancestors. When you go to the match tab, you will see a list of your ancestors that possibly match with people already in the system. When you click on a person, a comparison screen will appear in the lower window. Each field is matched for you and color coded. Green fields are total matches, yellow are pretty close and red fields don't match. You can decide your ancestor is a match or not. If you have unique data to add to the common ancestor page you can update that page right then. Be careful to mark the check boxes for the information you want to update the existing page with. Other tabs are just tools to help you manipulate how much of your gedcom you want to upload and help you connect to existing source and place pages.  :)--sq 11:28, 21 April 2009 (EDT)
