Reader - Corlett Marriage

Hi, Adam,

I got your message asking about the changes to the marriage for this family. You had entered the family twice, creating two different pages for the same family. Since part of the point of WeRelate is to avoid having duplicate pages, I merged the two pages into one page. Looking at the history of the two pages, I see that one had St. Johns as the Church, the other had St. Thomas as the church. Both churches/marriages should have appeared on the merged page, and I'm not sure why they didn't. I can appreciate that it would be a bit upsetting to have lost some of the information you thought you had just uploaded. Good to see that you have changed it to what you want.

Perhaps the problem was because of the way you had entered the place information. Usually, it would be entered as Liverpool, Lancashire, England, with the name of the church in the description field to the right. This would result in the text appearing in blue rather than red. The red text means that you have entered something that the computer does not recognize. I'm not sure this is what happened, but it's a possibility. If you are not sure how to enter the name of a place, you can always go to the Search page, and search for the place you want -- I just searched for Liverpool, England, and got the name of the page for Liverpool, and if that is entered on the page for John Reader and Margaret Corlett, you would see the print turn blue (or purple).

I also noticed that you seemed to have a lot more information in your source than you have posted on-line, including where you got the information. I found some of that information quite interesting, even though this is not my family. It really tells a little story about the family. You might want to consider entering your source information, and then adding the additional information you have in the text field associated with the source citation. If you have questions about how to enter sources by hand, have a look at at the Source Help page. I'm entering all my sources by hand, rather than as part of a GedCom upload. It does take more time, but I find that it's a good way to double-check what I've already entered, especially for research I did a long time ago.

Anyway, hope this helps. And welcome to WeRelate -- it does take a bit of time to learn your way around, but I think it's a great site and well worth the effort. --GayelKnott 02:42, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
