Adding Image Galleries to Place Pages [29 June 2016]

Please do not add any more Image Galleries to Place Pages unless the Images are of a very general interest specific to that Place (ex. a landmark).

The reason is that ephemera like high school programs, class photos, battlefield maps, etc. are too specific to be placed on each Place Page (imagine if everyone adding all of their Images to each Place Page). They belong on the Person or Family pages to whom they apply or to an Article page about a specific battle, etc. For a discussion about this and the cleanup project to fix all of the affected Place pages, see User talk:Cynthia and User talk:ACPL. Btw - are you all the same person?

If you wish to have your Image or group of Images linked to a Place, place them in a WeRelate Category for that Place instead. This is done for you automatically when you enter a Place in the Place field while creating (uploading) or editing an Image page. If you look at the bottom of any WeRelate page, you can see which Categories link to that page. For an Image, there is usually a Category for License, one or more for Place, and any other Categories that an editor has specified.

In this case, so many of these Images uploaded from ?staff? at ACPL seem to have been added here with no purpose and do not link to any specific Person or Family page. Can you fill us in on why they are being added and where they are coming from? Is it a special collection of donated items or something like that? If they are coming from a private collection, you could group everything together in an article and link that article to the donor's page. As it is, there does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the Image groups and much of the writing on the Images is illegible, so it won't be of much use to researchers.

If you need any help in figuring any of this out or would like to discuss methods of organizing these entries, please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you, --cos1776 15:39, 29 June 2016 (UTC)
