I'm just getting started, but two first interests are the following. Firstly the origin of my surname Bergsma, which seems to have been introduced by Atze Jans of Heeg (1714-1794). The reason he chose the name Bergsma may have been his roots in Bergum. Secondly, I'm interested in the origin of my first name Wicher, which can be traced back to the 17th century, when someone called Wijcher had a son Reijnder Wijchers in Paasloo (my grandfather was named Wiecher Bergsma, whose grandfather was named Wicher Feddes Bergsma, whose grandfather was Wicher Reijnders Steenbeek from Heeg, whose grandfather was Wijcher Reinders from Paasloo, who had a grandfather also named Wijcher).
