I have been researching for about 15 years. It all started innocently enough when my daughter asked about who we were and where we came from?
Since that initial couple of questions my research interests have expanded to include Mahoning and Columbiana counties in Ohio and Lawrence, Beaver and Butler counties in Pennsylvania (surnames Fry and Russell). Hill County and Hamilton County in Texas also are of interest to me (surnames Anderson, Malone and Vaughan). I attempt to travel to these locations as time, finances and need allow.
I currently live in Belton, Bell Co., Texas so the majority of my research is accomplished on the internet and in collaboration with other researchers/cousins in those areas. There are several very good genealogy libraries within an hour of here, including the Civil War Library at the Hill County Community College in Hillsboro, Texas.
Sharing information is important to me and survival of the information is paramount so that future generations have a foundation to build upon.
Early on I did not understand the importance of sourcing to enable other researchers to recreate the search and lately I've been experimenting with alternate ways to store source information. I hope to get it right someday.
