My ancestry is a culmination of over 10 years of researching including my paternal Maclaine line back to Dublin, Ireland circa 1700; I am descended of Lawrence Maclaine (c1700-c1750), and it is very likely his father was Charles Maclaine, born about 1660. Distant DNA ancestry shows my paternal origins in Northern Ireland about the year 400a.d. and I am most closely related genetically to the O'Dougherty clan of Inishowen. I suspect migration of members of the O'Dougherty family to the Hebrides of Scotland as my bloodline and other DNA matches indicate my more modern ancestors were highlanders in the Clan Maclaine of Lochbuie between 1400 and 1600 who later emigrated to Ireland. The earliest written record of my paternal line is the 1727 baptismal of my 6th-great grandfather, Henry Maclaine, son of Lawrence, of the Coombe, Dublin City, County Dublin, Ireland. In the 1870s after my family had arrived in New York, my great-great grandfather, Henry G. McLain (1866-1926), was orphaned as a young boy and later took the surname of his step-father, George T. Beal.
