Defect 1 [2 August 2016]

All the published records give the name as Joseph, no sign of a Josiah until 1700 when a different person named Josiah Wright m. a woman named Ruth. They were both Deacons of the church at various times, which suggests if Savage saw a record saying Josiah he was confusing a different person with Joseph. Such an outcome would not be surprising given Savage's confessed confusion: "For ano. w. he had Ruth, wid. of John Center, and she d. 18 Feb. 1717, aged 60, if the gr.-st. be true; but I have a memo. slightly inconsist." --Jrich 13:38, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Defect 2

Savage is confusing father and son here (or his "memo. slightly inconsist.", that he apparently relied on despite his inability to understand it, is). The marriage to Elizabeth Bateman and to Ruth Center are both before 1713, when Dea. Joseph's first and only wife died, and thus do not belong to the father, Deacon Joseph. Elizabeth's death record calls her wife of Joseph Jr. and Ruth's death record calls her wife of Mr. Joseph, not Dea. Joseph, so there seems to be clear indications neither belong to the father, Deacon Joseph. Obviously the Elizabeth Bateman in the marriage record is not the daughter of Deacon Joseph, as she would then be marrying her brother, so one must presume a different individual is referred to, perhaps a sister to the man who married the daughter? NEHGR, p. 37:78, has much better researched coverage of the Wright family in an article by William Cutter. --Jrich 13:56, 15 July 2016 (UTC)
