The Hingham record here gives the date as 17 March 1686/7, not 1688 (by which Savage would mean 1687/88). One can only assume that Savage was copying one of his unspecified sources (perhaps NEHGR, p. 3:97 from 1849, or p. 6:315 from 1852?) that had already promoted this date to 1687, and then Savage promoted it again, creating an error.
