shows good est. JOHN, Hartford 1668, s. of the preced. m. Rebecca, d.
as Bond says, of Jonathan Butler, but ano. friend had taught me, that it
was George Butler, and d. without issue, 1722; giv. his est. to Jonathan,
s. of Samuel Butler. By one rept. his w. was Mary. JONATHAN,
Hartford, br. of the preced. m. a. 1671, Rebecca, d. of serj. John Shepard,
by her had Jonathan, b. 1673; Rebecca; John; Mary, wh. by
Goodwin was erron. call. d. of the sec. w. Sarah; and Violet; whose
dates are not kn. but all these liv. to m. For sec. w. he took Mary, a.
of Samuel Olcott, and by her had Samuel, bapt. 13 Mar. 1687, d. soon;
Abigail, 2 Nov. 1690; Daniel, 26 Mar. 1693; and Samuel, again, 31
Mar. 1695; beside an inf. bur. 5 Mar. 1697, two days bef. its mo. He
m. third w. Mary Benton, but had no ch. by her, wh. after his d. m. 19
Mar. 1713, deac. John Shepard, and d. 23 Dec. 1752. JOSHUA, Watertown,
youngest s. of John the first, m. 20 Oct. 1676, Elizabeth d. of Thomas
Flagg
, had Joshua, b. 25 Nov. 1677; Jonathan, 22 Mar. 1680; John, 20
Dec. 1681; Benjamin, 20 Jan. 1684; Mercy, 1686; Elizabeth 3 Aug. 1687;
David, 30 Apr. 1694; Joseph, 29 Dec. 1695; Daniel, bapt. 29 Aug.
1697; Ebenezer, b. 4 Sept. 1698; Gershom, Sept. 1701; and Eliezer,
14 Mar. 1705. His w. d. 1729. In Philip's war he was wound. but
liv. to be near 90, d. 21 Feb. 1745 at Westminster, whither, with his
youngest s. he rem. only three yrs. bef. The late Hon. Timothy, H. C.
1786, was gr.s. of Daniel, s. of this Joshua, so that the error of Bond,
841, is plain, tho. not uncommon, in suppress. a generat. SAMUEL,
Watertown, br. of the preced. m. 3 June 1674, Mary, d. of Thomas
Flagg
(of wh. ch. two others m. other ch. of the first John Bigelow), had

1695. He was adm. freem. 1690; his w. d. 1720; and he d. a. 1731.
The Rev. Jacob, H. C. 1766, was s. of Jacob, gr.s. of Thomas, and gr.gr.s.
of this Samuel. Many variat. in spell. of this fam. name will be
found in early rec. but the gr. at Harv. in 1834, either with two or three
syllab. amount to eighteen, two at Yale, one at Dart. and five at other
N. E. coll.

    BIGGS or BIGG, JOHN, Boston 1630, came prob. with Winthrop and is
among the first hundred mem. of our ch. freem. 4 Mar. 1634; rem. next
yr. to Ipswich, yet came back; soon, and was one of the favorers of
Wheelwright, disarm. Nov. 1637. His first w. Mary d. 10 Jan. 1650.
Prob. he was some yrs. of Dorchester, next at Exeter, but was of ar. co.
