the chief place of trade. He d. 1682. FREEGRACE, Boston, eldest s. of
the preced. ar. co. 1667, was clk. of the Sup. Ct. 1670, m. Mary, d. of
Francis Lyell, and with her was drowned, 6 June 1676, returning, from
Noddle's Island to town, by the overset. of his boat in a sudden squall.
I have not learn. the names of any of the eight ch. that he left, of wh.
the town rec. says, five were "too small to shift for themselves."

    BENEDICT, DANIEL, Norwalk, s. perhaps youngest, of Thomas, was a
soldier in Philip's war, m. Mary Marvin, perhaps d. of Matthew of the
same, had Mary, Daniel, Mercy, and Hannah; and he rem. a. 1690, to
Danbury. JAMES, Norwalk, br. of the preced. m. 10 May 1676, Sarah,
a. of the first John Gregory, had Sarah, b. 16 June 1677; Rebecca;
Phebe; James; John; Thomas; and Elizabeth He prob. rem. to Danbury.
JOHN, Norwalk, br. of the preced. m. 11 Nov. 1670, Phebe, d. of the
first John Gregory, had Sarah; Phebe, b. 21 Sept. 1673; John, 3 Mar.
1676; Jonathan; Benjamin; Joseph; James, 15 Jan. 1686; Mary, or
Mercy; and Thomas. He succeed. his f. as deac. SAMUEL, Norwalk,
br. of the preced. m. 7 July 1678, Rebecca, prob. d. of Francis Andrews
of Fairfield, had Thomas, b. 27 Mar. 1679; and Abraham, 21 June
1681; but by former w. whose name is not seen, had Joanna, b. 22 Oct.
1673; and Samuel, 5 Mar. 1675; beside Rebecca, Esther, and Nathaniel,
prob. all by the sec. w. With others he purch. a. 1685, that
planta. wh. bec. Danbury. THOMAS, Southold, L. I. bef. 1650, had
come a. 1639 to Mass. at the age of 22, and soon after m. Mary Bridgham,
a fellow-passeng. He was the only s. it is said, of William of
Nottinghamsh. had Thomas, John, Samuel, James, Daniel, Betty, Mary,
Sarah, and Rebecca, all b. at S. and after liv. short time at Huntington,
and Jamaica, he rem. a. 1665 to Norwalk, there was deac. selectman,
town clk. and rep. in 1670. Date of his d. is not seen in Hall. Betty
m. John Slawson of Stamford; Mary m. 11 Nov. 1670, John Olmstead of
N.; Sarah m. 19 Dec. 1679, James Beebe of Stratford; and Rebecca
m. Dr. Samuel Wood. THOMAS, Norwalk, eldest s. of the preced. m. at
Jamaica, L. I. Mary Messenger, had Mary, b. 4 Dec. 1666; Thomas, 5
Dec. 1670; Hannah, 8 Jan. 1676; Esther, 5 Oct. 1679; Abigail, 1682;
and Elizabeth whose date Hall does not tell. He was deac. and d. 1690.

spread from Conn. Of this name the gr. at Yale in 1849 were fourteen.

    BENGILLEY, JOHN, Ipswich, freem. 1678, if the spell. in Col. Rec.
V. 539, as print. by the careful reading of Mr. Pulsifer, be not a mistake,
as I think it is, for Pengilley, wh. see, as giv. by Paige, in Geneal. Reg.
III. 245.
