The Waddelow Society is interested in all occurances of the Waddelow and Wadlow Names, plus variants. Waddelow is such a wonderful name that we would love to hear from anyone with a link to this name. The Society was founded by decendants of Thomas Waddelow of Littleport, d 1666, but these are just one part of the Waddelow family. You do not have to be related to Thomas to be a member please get in touch.

The Waddelow Society was founded by Ethel Taylor, in 1988. She had spent many years resareching the Waddelow name and contacted many relatives around the world. She was born Ethel May Waddelow on the 20th May 1920, in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. She was the eldest of three children of Alfred William Waddelow (1892-1939) and Rose Truss (1893-1967). Alfred was born in Haddenham, Cambridgeshire, the eldest of three children of John Waddelow and Sarah Morden. They left the Fens shortly after Alfred was born, moving to Scotton in Lincolnshire and then Alfred moved to Wakefield to work on the Railways as a Porter. Ethel and her sister Dora did not know that there were several Waddelow families still livin in Cambridgeshire and thinking that they may be the last of the Line, Ethel became interested in her family name. Little did she know at the time how many people she would meet and how much data she would gather. By 1988 she felt the time was right to set up the Waddelow Society to bring together all those who were not only interested in the Waddelow Name but also the variants including Wadlow.

Ethel became the first Secretary of the Society which she did along with organising the Annual meetings which were held first in Littleport and then later at the Little Downham Village Centre. In 2002 Ethel gave up the post of Secretary and was replaced by Susan Waterhouse, (daughter of Dora) who had been the Treasurer.

Sadly Ethel passed away in April 2010. She had been married for 64 years to Claud Whitworth Taylor, who sadly passed away in October 2009. Claud had been a Steam Railway Enthusiast all his life. He was also a keen supporter of the Waddelow Society and his tea making at the meetings was looked forward to at the end of each meeting. They will be both missed by everyone who knew them. The Waddelow Society has a new website http://thewaddelowsociety.yolasite.com/ and a new email address wadsoc@sky.com.
