Talk:Timeline.Lynn in Prince William, Virginia

Watchers

1762-1769 Dumfires, PWC [2 August 2012]

Did you mean Dumfries? --goldenoldie 14:14, 1 August 2012 (EDT)

Yes, thanks! I'll fix. --Janiejac 16:03, 1 August 2012 (EDT)

One of my favourite oopsies! --goldenoldie 17:26, 1 August 2012 (EDT)

I should have asked - have you done much research in this area of Virginia? I'm spending a LOT of time with various families in Stafford & Prince William and can always use help! Some of the Lynn's descendants have been DNA tested to be generic Jacksons. Whether the name change happened in Virginia or before the immigration is so far, unknown. So many of the early records have gone missing; it is a real challenge to piece together these families. --Janiejac 17:45, 1 August 2012 (EDT)

No. It's not my area at all. I was just curious after the Watercooler discussion. Dumfries, Scotland, is much closer to my ancestral stamping ground--and I've found myself calling it Dumfires more than once.

As to name changes, I have now found two in my own family--one in the late 1600s, the other during the Napoleonic Wars. It seemed men felt they could throw their whole past away by crossing the Atlantic. --goldenoldie 01:44, 2 August 2012 (EDT)
