Talk:Analysis:Edmiston's at King's Mountain

Bill, You have he lost his son Robert in the battle but in the chart it was his brother Robert which I believe to be correct His son was wounded but not killed...I had not realized how close kin all of them was...the chart is great...thanks for calling my attention to this page...--Dlbradley1 12:38, 13 March 2009 (EDT)

Thanks! I'll correct that. This indexing system has its good points and bad. I find that sometimes when you want to talk about a specific individual, getting the right index number can be problematical. I'm in the process of expanding the data base for Edmiston information. I've extracted what I can out of Summers 1929. See Notebook:Edmondson Family in Southwest Virginia#Summers 1929. There are also scraps in the Kegley series, but I don't know if its worth the effort to get them, as they are only available in hard copy. (Electronic versions make data capture a lot easier, but of course they have to be out of copyright.) YOu may want to check out the notebook on this, as there's quite a bit of useful data about the Edmiston's. At one time I did an article about the justices in Russell County, looking at their attendance record, etc. The variation in dedication was sort of interesting, and said a lot about the dedication of the individual. Some of the justices were rarely if ever at court, others were there virtually every session. It might be interesting to check that for William Edmiston, though making that kind of extraction from the data is a bit timeconsuming. Q 21:32, 13 March 2009 (EDT)
Don, I fixed the links so they point to the right persons, but I didn't get to the other fixes. Thanks for correcting that. Q 18:32, 14 March 2009 (EDT)

Bill, .....Col. William's son Robert was not in the Battle of Kings Mountain according to Howard Jones he was not old enough so the Robert wounded was the son of William Sr. We need to make that correction before we over look it and leave it wrong...--Dlbradley1 10:18, 30 March 2009 (EDT)

Don, you've lost me. The chart's aren't showing Robert son of Col. William as being in King's Mountain. GWCE doesn't mention Robert son of Col William as being at King's Mountain, though he lists (seemingly) every other Edmiston under the sun as being there. I would think if his own brother (albeit half brother) was there, he'd have taken note of it. He doesn't, so I agree that Col. Williams son Robert was not there. Moss gives two Robert Edmiston's as being at King's Mountain. One, brother of Col Wlliam was killed. The other, identified in Moss as "the YOunger", appears to have been the son of William Edmiston (3) (usually identified in the records as "Sr.").

It is listed just below the chart: From the above we see that Major Edmiston lost

  • his brother Robert
  • his brother Andrew
  • his brotherinlaw William Edmiston

as well as having his son Robert wounded. All of these men served together in Campbell's unit under the command of Major Edmiston. Of the seven members of the extended Edmiston family, three, Major William Edmiston, his brother Samuel, and his brotherinlaw Captain Davied Beattie, were unwounded.

Thanks!, got it. Q 08:43, 31 March 2009 (EDT)
