Source talk:Cutter, William Richard. Genealogical and Personal Memoirs Relating to the Families of Boston and Eastern Massachusetts

Not devoid of sources [13 February 2011]

While Cutter does not give sources for each fact, he certainly does give sources, and to say this is "devoid of sources" is inaccurate and unfair. Right now I am looking at the page for Michael Emerson, p. 915, found randomly by searching for "will dated" in the same volume as your Samuel Bangs example, and he is quoting extensively from a deed and then gives an abstract of his will which "is on file at the Salem registry". He is forever saying things like "if Bond is to be believed" (Dr. Henry Bond, author of Watertown genealogies, just a representative example, not the only author so referenced) and pointing out when things are according to tradition. While he may not be as thorough as modern standards would like, he is clearly identifying critical sources sufficiently for an experienced reader to tell what they are. --Jrich 18:46, 13 February 2011 (EST)
