The information in these databases comes from original records housed in county courthouses throughout West Virginia.

FamilySearch Database

The FamilySearch database includes some links to images of original records and has recently been expanded to cover the years 1804-1999, but it still includes the information from the original county wide database, i.e. "West Virginia Deaths, 1853–1970". According to their description, the expanded database is a name index of West Virginia statewide and county death records. The statewide death index covers years 1917-1956 and includes all 55 West Virginia counties. The county deaths index covers years 1853-1970.

The Ancestry.com database has not been expanded. It remains a copy of the original FamilySearch database "West Virginia Deaths, 1853–1970".
