Usage Tips

Available at the Family History Library. Also available free online from the Internet Archive. Text appears to have been composed on a typewriter based. The source appears to be an index to a set of licensing records rather than the licenses themselves.

Resource contains two parts: Part I Grooms, Part II Brides. This is an indicator of the sort order; both bride and groom are included for each entry.

The resource is represented in the Internet Archive as a single volume, but on the title page the contents are indicated as being separated into eight books:

  • A1 1836 to 1845
  • B1 1845 to 1854
  • A 1854 to 1862
  • B 1862 to 1868
  • C 1868 to 1874
  • D 1874 to 1878
  • E 1878 to 1883
  • F 1883 to 1888

The entries are arranged in five columns (left-to-right):

  • BK (Book)
  • Page
  • Date
  • Brides (in Part I; Grooms in Part II)
  • Grooms (in Part I; Brides in Part II) <-- ordered by this field

Names appear in "surname, given name" format. In some cases, there are notes suggesting one or another spelling for a name, suggesting transcription from a handwritten source with some legibility deficits. In the space between Page and Date there sometimes appears "Lic", which might indicate a license date as opposed to an actual marriage date, though there is not a key / usage guide for the source itself.
