Usage Tips

This title was published in 1882 by J. G. Elder as History of Lewiston. It was retyped by Everett A Davis and Adrienne I Cote; this typescript is at the Androscoggin Historical Society in Auburn Maine. The microfilm of the typescript may be ordered through the nearest Family History Center.

The title was ultimately published in full book form after editing and corrections by David and Elizabeth Young. The 1989 Heritage Books edition can be found at the Family History Library. It was reprinted again by Heritage Books with a new forward in 1997 and 2007.

This is an invaluable source for Lewiston area research because as in many Maine communities, many of the original records were burned in various fires. It includes biographical sketches and military records, early cemetery records and cemetery inscriptions.
