[edit] Usage TipsThis is a series published in multiple volumes transcribing many of the surviving original Acadian Church Records. The transcribers do not indicate if they were working from microfilm, photocopies, or the originals, nor do they provide the provenance of the original Church Record Books. [For more information on the existing Acadian Church Records and where they may be found see the excellent bibliography in Source:White, Stephen A. Dictionnaire Généalogique des Familles Acadiennes, Premiére Partie, 1636 à 1714] The volumes were compiled and published by different persons at different times. Here is the needed citation information and a summary of each volume. The details of the scope of each volume are taken from White's bibliography. It is important for the user to note that the registers are not complete. There are noted gaps. There are also events that took place away from the church (such as emergency baptisms) and were never recorded. Many of the registers are not 'original' in the strictest sense as the priest may have recopied them to better organize or to replace a battered original. [edit] Volume 1The initial volume, which we now call volume I, is a miscellaneous collection of ecclesiastical records from Beaubassin, Riviere St. Jean, Mines, missions in New Brunswick and the parish churches of Ste. Famille de Pabok, Baie des Chaleurs, Grande Riviere and other places in Acadia and the Gaspe Peninsula.
It was reprinted by Polyanthos in 1975.
[edit] Volume 2The series was then picked up be Mr. & Mrs. Milton P. Rieder, Jr, who transcribed the registers of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Beaubassin, 1712-1723, 1732-1735, 1740-1748.
[edit] Volume 3The Rieders continued the series transcribing the records of Saint Jean Baptiste de Port Royal.
[edit] Volume 4The Reiders continued with the registers of Port Royal for the years 1716 through 1729 after the death of Milton in 1977; with Milton Reider listed as the translator and compiler Norma Gaudet Reider.
[edit] Volume 5The final volume in the series covers the Port Royal register for 1730 through 1740 and son, David Michael Rieder joins his mother on the editing team.
