I am trying to edit the place pages at WeRelate, but have encountered nothing but frustration. I am German and in Germany it is important to know the exact administrative hierarchy at a given time, because this determines the archive where the documents you want to research ended up. To make it even more fun, there are two hierarchies: the government hierarchy and the church hierarchy. Church hierarchy is important for baptism, confirmation and burial records. Finally, the administrative borders changed a lot during the last 300 years, so if you want to be accurate every little town needs to have a long list stating to which administrative district it belonged when. German genealogists have put a lot of work into researching places in Germany (and former Germany that is today Poland and Russia) and recording the administrative districts and place names and name changes and what not. I am trying to replicate part their work for the counties I am working on, mainly because it is important for my family tree. The possibility to do this was one of the reasons I decided to go with WeRelate as opposed to WikiTree. Here it gets complicated: when it comes to the administrative districts, there is not one single thing on WeRelate that is correct. The problem is that they copied the place names of FamilySearch. FamilySearch is aimed at practicality, at quickly finding what you are looking for, not about accuracy.
